We cannot emphasize enough the importance of making adequate backup copies of your data!  If you are an investment professional, your livelihood depends upon it.  Captools/net default setting is to make weekly backups of your data files.  This includes the Captools database, your customized report templates and some other auxiliary support files, all in a date-named folder which can be easily restored in Captools/net.

We recommend that month-ending archival data backups be copied onto separate media, e.g. USB flash drives or external drives and permanently retained off-site or in a "Cloud" storage for at least a year before being overwritten.  Weekly backups should not be overwritten for at least two months.  This will minimize the possibility of overwriting good backup data with corrupted data before you realize a problem exists.  If you are a non-professional investor, you should make backups whenever you have input a significant quantity of new data.

Finally, do not re-format your hard drive or let a third party technician re-format your hard drive until you absolutely verified that you have usable copies of your data sufficient to restore your system.  If in doubt, please contact Captools Co. support before proceeding with such an operation. Warning: There have been instances of third party technicians (including at major computer vendors) who have reformatted customer hard drives without obtaining verification of adequate data backup.
